How do you read a HUD in poker?
You must know what stats you need to have while tackling an opponent. We briefly explain some of the most common stats that every poker player should be able to read when playing online poker. It’s always good to remind ourselves that when we have equal opportunities of winning; the one who exploits these opportunities to the fullest wins more.
VPIP Percentage (VPIP%)
VPIP% is the average percentage of times your opponent chooses to voluntarily put his money in the pot. For example, in a 6-Max game, the normal VPIP% is 20-25%. Higher than the normal VPIP% is an indication that the player is playing loose and defensive while lower than the average percentage indicates the player is playing tight.
FC
It is the number of times your opponent folds to flop continuation bets. A higher number indicates that your opponent doesn’t like playing with lower chances whereas a lower FC number indicates that he usually prefers to play with marginal chances. If you study the FC in conjunction with VPIP, you get to see the overall game style of your opponent. So here are three of the common situations you can find yourself in against your opponent.
High VPIP and low FC: Your opponent will do a lot of flops and turns so you will have to play accordingly.
Normal VPIP and low FC: You might need other stats such as pop-up stat and bet-when-checked stat to get an overall idea.
Normal VPIP and High FC: You are facing a player who is not very consistent and loves to experiment.
F2
This is the number of times your opponent folds to the second barrel. A high F2 suggest that your opponent doesn’t like to continue without a strong hand after calling pre-flop and flop.
AG
AG is the aggression rate of your opponent with normal ranges of 1-3. An Aggression Factor below or above this range would mean that your opponent is too defensive or aggressive respectively.
WTSD%
This stat is the percent of times your opponent chooses to showdown after seeing the flop. The normal ranges fall between 20-30%
