"We Don't Sell Blocks" Exploring Minecraft's Commissioning Market We have seen a rise in videogames using in-game content creation as their primary mode of play. While there is literature that has studied a variety of aspects of these games, it is vital to explore the potential ways to make money that emerge from their context. Our ethnographic research revealed a vibrant market for commissioning in the Minecraft creative community. Our findings point out the three principal players in this market: the clients who own Minecraft servers and the contractors who handle the clients' orders for Minecraft maps and the developers who are responsible for the development of said maps. More Our research has proven that the primary product at stake is not the game's content, as one would expect however, it is the process of creating it. Jerry The findings suggest that the current structure of Minecraft is influenced by commissioning - an organized process that is that is initiated and maintained by the community of the game. They also challenge the idea that creating content in gaming environments is a free labor that is exploited only by the game's creators.
